Lake Tahoe’s a little slice of heaven. You were right Marty. “My soul is here” is what Mickie said, and I have to say that I think she meant it.
We found a little motel on the lake in King’s Beach, which was the perfect setting. A little outdoor community that didn’t feel resort-like or removed at all, and we were actually fortunate the next morning to come across a sculling race on the lake and a sweet little coffee shop, called the Java Hut, just outside the motel. We woke up at 5:30 am to be able to enjoy the area a bit before taking off to Dan and Jillian’s wedding and we will definitely be back.
it could be coaxed.
They’re all so stinkin’ cute.
The car’s a mess. Well, relatively speaking, it’s not so bad – this being our….8th (?) day on the road. We’re trying to keep things organized and sane, which pretty much means at least repacking the car every day. Pulling out cloths makes a mess of the back because of the size of
our bag and the configuration of the packing job. It doesn’t take that long to do, yet I find myself dreading it each night as I debate whether to try to feel around for cloths to pull out, or pull the whole shebang. Not that it matters – it gets repacked anyway. The “living area” of the car has snacks and water bottles and phones and a laptop, and camera, and diapers and wipes and an atlas, Thomas the Train books, blankets, pillows, a small cooler, an electronics bag, a dog leash, and a copy of East of Eden which I have yet to pick up. Wow. And when I look at the picture above this paragraph I say take all that mess, double it, and bring it on. It’s worth it.
Doesn’t seem like 8 days. It’s gone by fast, and thinking of the ground we’ve covered and different terrain we’ve seen makes me feel a little weird. Like we should still be further back, just entering the west perhaps. But here we are in Northern California. The trip’s not over until we hit L.A. though, so I feel like we’re only half way done, as funny as that sounds, having traveled all the way cross country. We have some sights to see and people to visit and many a mile yet to drive. But this weekend we have a wedding to attend – I need to dig out my dress shoes…
…(and these two need to get in the car)

Hey Buddy, ya’ll, glad you are digging my neck of CA
