…of the gladdest moments in human life, methinks is the departure upon a distant journey into unknown lands. Shaking off with one mighty effort the fetters of Habit, the leaden weight of Routine, the Cloak of many cares and the Slavery of Home, one feels once more Happy , the blood flows with the fast circulation of childhood… A journey, in fact, appeals to Imagination, to Memory, to Hope — the three Sister Graces of our moral being.”
–Sir Richard Francis Burton
When the time came to finish the present journey we did so with heavy hearts. Beautiful beautiful place.

Oh my goodness – that is so beautiful! I can’t say if it was your family or God’s great earth that was more beautiful. Actually, I do know – each makes the other complete. I love you guys. MOM
Hello, my name is Cheryl Pepper and I work with Kathy Raynor, who was kind enough to share this wonderful blog and video with me today. I had to tell you how much I enjoyed it. My children are now 23, 21, and 19 and I remember how much I loved traveling with them when they were small and also how hard it could be at times. You are a very talented writer, photographer, and videographer. Thank you so much for sharing. You have a beautiful family!
did that salamander just wink at me???
loved it, very beautiful.
Stunning! Made me sad for some reason. Absolutely beautiful land. Beautiful family. You captured it perfectly.
Very nice video. Beautiful images. Great shooting and editing. How’d you get that lizard thing to wink on cue? Impressive. And the best part, you now have a short, emotionally powerful video(s) of this Oregon experience to watch with your family for the rest of your lives. Pretty awesome!
Yeah man, that’s livin’! Looks like you all had a smashing good time! Totally enjoyed the videos and blogging, nice touch bro! Cool newt/salamander!
Thank you, thank you, thank you…for sharing your wonderful family adventures. We are simply blown-away with the imaginative touches that you’ve so beautifully woven throughout your blog: the stories, the pictures, the music, the videos (crazy-good) and, without a doubt, the over-abundance of joy and love your family seems to so effortlessly exude.
Much love – and with tears in our eyes after taking in your terrific Oregon video tribute,
wow! …tear in my eye from that last video…
Really enjoyed your Oregon posts — the life lessons you and Mick are teaching your boys about family, togetherness, experiencing life rather than just doing it, the importance of a sense of humor, etc. is truly wonderful. This world would be a very different place if everyone did it the way you guys do.
Wow, priceless. It’s like watching a show on television.
So first off, some beautiful pix and beautiful family. I assume that is your family and not actors. Great shots – saw you carrying gear in one so I assume those are taken by you? Beautiful…I’m not a photographer myself but I visit galleries whenever I can and think you’ve captured the real spirit of the place and the experience.
So where do you think you would take this idea? this is not to sound corny or used car salesman-y, but I really think this is a great book/show concept. I work in at a public radio/public media producer, and I think this “natural parenting” concept – both in environment and style (i.e., how we parent) – is quite a movement in this country and something that could be tapped into somehow.
Watched the video again, cried again. Love you guys.
