How to Live?

He who binds to himself a joy,
Doth the winged life destroy
He who kisses the joy as it flies,
Lives in eternity’s sun rise.

–William Blake

What does this poem mean to you? What do you take from it?

He who kisses the joy as it flies…. a powerful sometimes difficult thing to do, no?

To me this poem represents life’s ever changing opportunities. And if you hold yourself to one “joy” or bind yourself to one aspect of your life then you will be missing out on so many other opportunities.
On the other hand, if you live life as it comes your way, enjoying each moment for what it is and for the length of time provided then you will live life long and happily.

Very inspiring and very hard to do!

I like this. You looked at it slightly differently than I did. Not to differently, but from a new angle.

I love your thoughts on this Loretta. I have always looked at this poem as a reference to the fact that as soon as you start clinging to joyful moments, they immediately become less than joyful, or even bad because now you are fearful of losing the joyful moment. I love this because it says to me to enjoy and and experience the moment, good or bad, but experience it fully and then let go. Dear AJ XXOO :-)
