“The National Parks” and Shelton Johnson

One more mention about Ken Burns’ “The National Parks” – A park ranger by the name of Shelton Johnson is featured in a few episodes, and watching them, listening to him talk about the parks, I thought to myself “This man is a poet.”  Well, it turns out he is a poet, but that may not be the most interesting thing about him.  Shelton Johnson grew up in inner city Detroit, and how he wound up a park ranger in places like Yellowstone and Yosemite piqued my interest.  It began with him seeking seasonal employment during a break in his studies.  You can hear a sample in the clip below:
